There are obviously many different paths you could take. If I were in your situation, I would Major and Minor in Communications, Gov't/Politics, or Journalism, depending on what you want to write about. You don't really need a creative writing degree to be a creative writer, but you could take classes in creative writing to help learn about it. You could also double minor with creative writing and something else. Good luck!
Yes, qualified assistants are ALWAYS in demand. I would be more concerned about your reasons for entering Dentistry. This is a job you have to at least like, if not love. It is hard work, patients are often in pain and grumpy, the Dr. is NOT always easy to work with and the mouth can be awful nasty sometimes.
I pay my assistants VERY well, but they earn the money. Also, no holidays and no weekends, ill-time and paid holidays off.
I would not consider you highly qualified until you have spent 5 years working in the field. Then, I would need to train you for my procedures and that would take 6 months to a year. This is not a quick path to easy money.
Please examine the reasons you are considering this job. Nothing worse than having a job you absolutely HATE. Dental Assist. can turn into one of those jobs very quickly.

Personally, I think if you are going to have 4 kids, dental assistant might be the way to go. Shorter time in school, relaxed atmosphere, no terribly long shifts, and it still gives you plenty of time with your children. You could absolutely do nursing if you are really interested in it, but I think it might be a little harder.
The only pro for nursing is that you can continue your education, which always leads to more money. But it's a lot more work. Hope this helps!
Go for the dental assistant, there are 4 levels to that job
A dental assistant will make more money that a nurse's aid anywhere in the US.
The job outlook for either of your choices will be excellent, better than most. You should choose what you'll be happy with the most though. It sounds like you'd rather be a dental assistant. Go for it! Worst case scenario is if this doesn't work for you, it's just a few weeks to complete your cna program. Then you'll have two excellent job options. Seriously though, based on what I've read and seen, Dentist's are always looking for RDA's. Maybe in your area they might not be as in demand, but generally they are. It's best to look for RDA job openings in your area to find out and get an idea for yourself. All health care jobs in general though will be more and more available as time goes on, so just follow your heart and start moving!
i've been a dental assistant for about 13 years. i'd say it was a respectable job if you don't mind sucking spit out of someone's mouth with a metal tube. i really like it or i'd be doing something else, i suppose.
dental office turnover is pretty high – therefore the need for dental assistants is also high.
we just hired a new assistant in our office and apparently the going rate for someone right out of school is about $15/hour (this is in Oklahoma)
Yes, there is a demand…
…you can also become a DA by working at a dentiss's office and getting trained on the job…
